About The Position
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a SQL Server Database Administrator to provide advanced technical support across all phases of database administration, development, migration, security, performance monitoring, and data management. The role will support critical production systems, SQL Server/Azure SQL environments, data warehouses, data migrations, database design, and Power BI environments.
Requirements
- 7+ years of SQL Server Database Administration
- 4+ years supporting Database Administration on Production Servers
- 3+ years of Data Analytics
- 1+ year of Azure Database Administration
- 1+ year of Data Warehouse experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and process improvement skills

Responsibilities
- Provide operational support for SQL Server databases and database servers supporting critical production systems.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, and service quality.
- Perform database health checks, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Perform SQL Server database migrations and upgrades between legacy and new servers/SQL versions.
- Design and execute data migration, extraction, cleansing, transformation, loading, and validation processes.
- Deploy and maintain SQL database solutions within Azure.
- Secure, configure, back up, and maintain Azure SQL resources.
- Support database design, schema development, and database architecture.
- Deploy and maintain database schema changes across test and production environments.
- Support the PSP Data Warehouse, Data Marts, and Power BI environments.
- Monitor and optimize Azure SQL and SQL Server performance and availability.
- Support migration of on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL.
- Develop and maintain logical and physical database models, tables, relationships, and normalization.
- Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, DBAs, and vendors to determine database requirements and configurations.
- Coordinate database backup and restore requests.
- Assist with software releases, issue tracking, risk management, and technical support.
