Who We Are: Opening its doors over 45 years ago, FSSI is a leading document outsourcing company servicing Fortune 500 companies in the financial, banking, insurance and billing industries across the U.S. We are currently looking for a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator to join our FSSI East Development team. Location: This is a remote opportunity open to candidates residing in the following states: Florida, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, Texas, and Alabama. Candidates who are interested in a hybrid or onsite arrangement may also work from our facilities in Lincoln, RI or Orlando, FL. This role is responsible for the administration, availability, performance, security, integrity, and recoverability of Microsoft SQL Server database environments supporting FSSI business and production systems. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL Server platforms; supporting application and development teams; implementing backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions; and ensuring database environments comply with FSSI security, change-management, and operational standards. We are looking for a hands-on, experienced SQL Server Database Administrator who can step into the role and make an immediate impact. Our ideal candidate takes ownership, can assess situations independently, identify potential issues, and bring practical solutions and recommendations to the table. You’ll work closely with our IT, development, infrastructure, and business teams, so strong communication and the ability to explain technical issues and solutions are important. You’ll receive training on FSSI-specific applications and procedures, but we’re looking for someone who already understands how to be a DBA and can apply that knowledge in a new environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
2–4 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments preferred.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) strongly preferred, or an equivalent current Microsoft data-platform/database administration certification.
Additional current Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, security, or data-platform certifications are preferred.
Relevant AWS, CompTIA, or other recognized infrastructure/security certifications are a plus.
Demonstrated continuing education in Microsoft SQL Server, cloud database platforms, security, high availability, performance tuning, and database automation is preferred.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration, architecture, configuration, security, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Proficiency with T-SQL, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Agent, execution plans, indexing, stored procedures, and database troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups and failover concepts.
Experience with database backup, restore, recovery testing, integrity checks, and disaster-recovery procedures.
Understanding of database security concepts including least privilege, role-based access, encryption, auditing, authentication, and secure configuration.
Experience using PowerShell and/or T-SQL to automate database administration and operational tasks.
Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, networking, storage, virtualization, and infrastructure concepts that affect SQL Server.
Familiarity with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure/AWS, or other cloud-hosted SQL Server environments.
Familiarity with DevOps practices, Git, CI/CD pipelines, database deployment tooling, monitoring, and observability.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to participate in scheduled maintenance and production support activities as business needs require.

Responsibilities

Administer, configure, monitor, patch, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database environments across development, test, and production systems.
Install and configure SQL Server instances, databases, SQL Server Agent jobs, linked servers, maintenance plans, and related database services.
Monitor database availability, capacity, performance, blocking, deadlocks, waits, storage utilization, and overall system health; proactively identify and resolve issues.
Perform SQL performance tuning, including query analysis, execution-plan review, indexing strategy, statistics maintenance, and optimization of stored procedures and database objects.
Design, implement, test, and maintain backup and recovery strategies that meet established recovery point and recovery time objectives.
Support high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies such as SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping, and replication as appropriate.
Manage database security, roles, permissions, service accounts, encryption, auditing, and access controls in accordance with least-privilege and FSSI security standards.
Apply SQL Server security updates, cumulative updates, and version upgrades using approved change-management and testing processes.
Create, review, and maintain T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, views, indexes, SQL Agent jobs, and database maintenance routines.
Partner with application developers to review database designs, data models, queries, stored procedures, and deployment scripts for performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
Support database deployments through CI/CD and DevOps processes and participate in release planning, validation, rollback, and post-deployment monitoring.
Automate routine database administration activities using PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, and other approved scripting and orchestration tools.
Maintain database documentation, configuration standards, data dictionaries, runbooks, recovery procedures, and operational support documentation.
Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, and production support for database-related issues.
Monitor and manage capacity, storage growth, retention requirements, archiving, and data lifecycle needs.
Support integrations and data movement using technologies such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), APIs, ETL/ELT processes, and secure file/data transfer mechanisms.
Work with infrastructure, security, development, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure reliable and secure database services.
Evaluate and support SQL Server workloads hosted on-premises and in cloud environments, including SQL Server hosted in AWS.
Ensure database systems and changes comply with FSSI security, audit, business-continuity, change-management, and production standards.
