About The Position

Medical Mutual is seeking a SQL Database Analyst to provide strategic, analytical, and technical support for database-related activities. This hybrid-remote role, based out of the Brooklyn, OH office, involves working onsite on designated days. The analyst will support projects requiring DBA involvement, assist in problem identification and issue resolution, and act as an intermediary between IT project teams and technical staff to translate project requirements into database design. The role emphasizes ensuring database best practices, optimizing system performance, and developing solutions to improve DBA processes and procedures. Responsibilities include researching and developing DBA tools and processes, ensuring data integrity through backup and recovery procedures, and supporting testing, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Business or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five years experience in database analysis and design concepts.
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies including Waterfall and Agile.
  • Advanced SQL coding and operating systems skills.
  • Advanced understanding of logical and physical database design concepts.
  • Solid analytical, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong understanding of Database Management System software.

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous support and education to IT analyst and development staff to ensure DB best practices are used in all projects.
  • Ensures optimum performance and efficient use of system resources for new applications by monitoring application processes during development and production installs.
  • Develops solutions to improve the effectiveness of the processes and procedures used by DBA staff.
  • Provide documentation to DBA staff on improvements.
  • Research and develop DB administration tools process and procedures to ensure the tool is being used as intended and all capability of the tool is fully utilized.
  • Following DBA guidelines and best practices for backup and recovery - ensures data integrity for assigned applications by designing backup procedures with consideration for quick onsite recovery and disaster recovery at an offsite location.
  • Supports testing, implementation and break-fix troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Participates in the testing of the database system when new releases or maintenance is applied to the RDBMS and related software and identifies and documents issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
