About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our team, focusing on interior projects. The role involves designing and laying out sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software, coordinating piping with other building components, and performing hydraulic calculations. The designer will interpret construction documents, apply relevant NFPA standards, and may perform field checks. Collaboration with Estimation, Design, and Operations departments is key, as is coordinating projects to meet delivery dates, communicating with AHJs, contractors, and other trades, and assisting with material, permitting, and inspection requirements. The position also involves participating in meetings, identifying cost-saving opportunities, adhering to safety policies, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have experience with designing fire sprinkler systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards, and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
  • Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
  • Minimum Experience: 5+ years Fire Protection Design experience or a Fire Sprinkler Design Degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level I - IV certification is preferred.
  • RME-G Required
  • HydraCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software packages that are based on the AutoCAD platform.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems based on the building type, construction type, hazard classification and architectural features.
  • Perform field check of completed design to verify accuracy, if required.
  • Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and requirements of each project.
  • Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
  • Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
  • Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
  • Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
