About The Position

The City of Douglasville is now accepting applications for our Spring Internship Program! JOB SUMMARY: The CONFERENCE CENTER AND TOURISM INTERN will provide operational and administrative support that allows the Conference Center and Tourism Department to function efficiently, maintain a high-quality visitor experience, and successfully host events and community activities. This is a project-based, Administrative and Research focused role. Selected students will participate in a meaningful and challenging 20-week spring internship that will allow each intern to have exposure to different facets of local government, and receive critical skills, and career and personal development training. Interns will work on a wide variety of tasks and projects within a cross-functional team of professionals and get exposure to leaders within the organization. This learning experience affords students the opportunity to view the inner workings of city government. Each intern will have a variety of responsibilities and be assigned projects that relate to their field of study. Each intern must be open to new ideas and suggestions, and be committed to completing the internship in its entirety. Please feel free to apply to no more than TWO (2) internships. Typically, 40 hours per week under the supervision of the Department Director and/or Manager. The rate of pay will be paid at $20 per hour.

Requirements

  • United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States
  • Current enrollment in a Georgia college, university, or technical school
  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with a current grade point average of 3.0 or better
  • Current Resume
  • Letter of recommendation from an academic professor
  • Copy of unofficial transcripts
  • Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment including calculator, computer keyboard, computer word processing or other programs, telephone, telephone console, or copy machine as required
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical and accounting procedures
  • Skill in operating a computer
  • Skill in communicating both orally and in written form
  • Skill in researching complex issues and developing recommended actions
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate new and revised procedures, methods and standards
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise considerable skill in information handling, privacy of records and judgment
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Responsibilities

  • Staffing the Welcome Center during regular business hours to ensure the building remains open, accessible, and properly monitored.
  • Welcoming and assisting visitors with general information and directions.
  • Answering phones and responding to basic inquiries.
  • Receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming mail and deliveries.
  • Running routine administrative and operational reports as assigned.
  • Assisting with inventory management, including stocking office and building supplies.
  • Supporting general facility upkeep, including light cleaning and organization of common areas.
  • Assisting with event setup, breakdown, and on-site support during meetings, conferences, and community events.
  • Providing general administrative assistance to Conference Center & Tourism staff as needed.
