About The Position

Refugee Women's Alliance (ReWA) is seeking an SPP Lead Teacher to lead a Seattle Preschool Program classroom at their Northaven Early Learning Center in Seattle, WA. This role involves leading classroom instruction, curriculum planning, child assessment, family engagement, and implementing Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) and DEEL requirements. The position also supports multilingual development, dual language learning, and fostering a sense of belonging for immigrant and refugee children. ReWA's Early Learning Services aim to create inclusive classrooms that honor children's languages, cultures, identities, and strengths, building strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • Meet the current DEEL/MERIT qualification requirements for an SPP Lead Teacher
  • Generally, this includes a BA in Early Childhood Education or another bachelor's degree with the required ECE coursework under the current SPP standard
  • Ability to meet applicable Washington State child care licensing, background check, health and safety, and SPP requirements
  • Experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum and learning experiences

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) experience preferred but not required. Candidates who meet or are eligible to meet current SPP qualification requirements are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD and other child assessment tools
  • Experience with preschool curriculum, child assessment, and classroom documentation
  • Experience with culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices and supporting dual language learning
  • Experience working with diverse children and families
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
  • P-3 or Washington teaching credentials and/or approved Dual Language Initiative credentials

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation and instruction of an SPP preschool classroom
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive curriculum and learning experiences
  • Provide classroom leadership and collaborate with the Assistant Teacher and other support staff
  • Complete required observations, assessments, and documentation, including Teaching Strategies GOLD and other SPP-required tools
  • Use assessment information to support classroom planning and individualized learning experiences
  • Maintain licensing, SPP/DEEL, health and safety, and classroom documentation requirements
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families and partner with them around children's learning and development
  • Create a classroom environment that celebrates children's cultures, languages, identities, and strengths
  • Work closely with the Site Director, Assistant Director, Instructional Coach, and other program partners
  • Participate in required SPP professional development, coaching, planning, and continuous quality improvement activities
