About The Position

Refugee Women's Alliance (ReWA) is seeking an SPP Assistant Teacher to join our Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) classroom at our MLK Early Learning Center in Seattle, WA. This role partners with the Lead Teacher to support instruction, child development, assessment, family engagement, classroom routines, and SPP requirements in a multilingual and dual language learning environment. ReWA has empowered refugee and immigrant women and families for over 40 years, serving families from more than 70 countries. Our Early Learning Services focus on creating inclusive classrooms that honor children's languages, cultures, identities, and strengths, building strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Requirements

Meet the current DEEL/MERIT qualification requirements for an SPP Assistant Teacher
Generally, this includes an AA in Early Childhood Education or another associate degree with the required ECE coursework under the current SPP standard
Ability to meet applicable Washington State child care licensing, background check, health and safety, and SPP requirements
Experience supporting young children in an early learning, preschool, childcare, or related educational setting
Strong relationship-building skills with children, families, and colleagues
A collaborative, team oriented mindset
Strong communication and organizational skills
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating welcoming learning environments

Nice To Haves

Previous Seattle Preschool Program (SPP) experience
Experience supporting preschool curriculum and classroom planning
Experience with child observation, assessment, and documentation
Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD and other child assessment tools
Experience with culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices and supporting dual language learners
Experience working with diverse children and families
Bilingual or multilingual proficiency

Responsibilities

Partner with the Lead Teacher to implement curriculum and daily learning activities
Support classroom routines, transitions, small-group activities, and individualized learning experiences
Help create a safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive classroom environment
Participate in child observations, documentation, assessment, and classroom planning
Support Teaching Strategies GOLD and other required SPP assessment and documentation processes
Maintain licensing, SPP/DEEL, health and safety, and classroom requirements
Build positive and responsive relationships with children and families
Support a classroom environment that values children's languages, cultures, identities, and strengths
Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, Instructional Coach, site administration, and classroom support staff
Participate in required professional development, coaching, planning, and team meetings
