This is a full-time company driver, solo driver position with a local trucking route. The role requires operating out of Woodridge, IL, and involves working the 3rd shift from Monday-Friday, 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Overtime, weekends, and holidays will be required during peak/seasonal volumes, with flexibility in the schedule needed for 40-50 hours a week. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment safely, adhering to all safe driving practices and DOT guidelines. The primary responsibility is to drive and maintain a spotter, moving empty and loaded trailers from dock to yard or yard to docks as assigned. This includes using landing gear to drop trailers, opening and closing swinging trailer doors, and raising and lowering roll-up doors. The spotter ensures trailers are completely loaded and secured before moving from the dock area and that trailer doors are closed when not in the dock. Daily pre- and post-trip inspections are required, with immediate reporting of any vehicle mechanical problems. Daily yard checks are also necessary, including inspecting and Red Tagging "out-of-service" trailers and defective equipment. Trailers must be arranged in the yard in an orderly and efficient manner. The role requires willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and to operate and work around moving equipment. A high level of attention to detail and awareness of surroundings is crucial when operating a vehicle. The ability to reason logically, use common sense, and resolve issues independently is also important. The physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, hearing, seeing, moving, driving, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment safely; must adhere to all safe driving practices and DOT guidelines.
  • Must be willing and able work outdoors in all weather conditions including snow, rain, heat and cold
  • Must be willing and able to operate moving equipment and work around moving equipment
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail while constantly aware of the work surroundings when operating a vehicle
  • Must have the ability to reason logically, use common sense, and resolve issues independently.
  • The physical demands of this position require waling, standing, sitting, hearing, seeing, moving, driving, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Heavy & Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers: 2 years (Required)
  • Driving: 1 year (Required)
  • CDL A (Required)
  • Hazmat Endorsed
  • Ability to meet all DOT requirements
  • Class A CDL
  • Pre-employment Background check and Drug Screen Required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Reliable transportation
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Previous experience
  • Tractor trailer experience required

Responsibilities

  • The ability to drive and maintain a spotter -moving empty and loaded trailers from dock to yard or yard to docks as assigned
  • Use landing gear to drop trailers; open and close swinging trailer doors and rise and lower roll-up doors
  • Ensures the trailer is completely loaded and secured before moving from the dock area; ensures trailer doors are closed while not in the dock
  • Perform Daily Pre-and Post-Trip Inspection – Report any vehicle mechanical problems immediately
  • Perform Daily Yard Checks - Inspect and Red Tag “out-of-service” trailers and defective equipment.
  • Arranges trailers in the yard in an orderly and efficient manner
  • Responsible for any other additional duties as assigned by management.
