About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented individual to join their team as a Sportsbook Ticket Writer. This part-time, swing shift position involves providing outstanding guest service by writing and paying race/sports book tickets, answering guest questions about sports and sports betting, processing contest selections and parlay cards, and signing up guests for Oaklawn’s Players' Rewards cards. The role requires adherence to Oaklawn’s Core Values and Standards of Behavior, ensuring a positive and exciting environment for guests and team members.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to handle several projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Must be able to perform the physical job duties of all Sportsbook team members.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Guest service experience preferred.
  • Two or more years Sportsbook/Casino industry experience preferred.
  • Written communication skills in English may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.
  • Maintains visibility and accessibility to guests and staff; maintains effective communication with all staff to ensure room is performing at established standards.
  • Practices, supports and promotes the Oaklawn’s Core Values and Standards of Behavior at all times.
  • Accurately writes and pays valid race/sports book tickets.
  • Operates wagering terminal and performs machine maintenance, including loading new tickets and keeping the area free of debris.
  • Answers guest questions related to sports and sports betting in a manner that reflects an understanding of the department and property.
  • Explains wagering information and answers guest questions.
  • Processes contest selections and parlay cards.
  • Assists supervisors in identifying guests with special needs or liberal betting to ensure the protection of company assets and best guest service.
  • Observes and reports unusual or suspicious wagering patterns or transactions.
  • Sells and processes all bets according to specified dollar amount, game/race selection and betting conditions.
  • Explains the rules and variations of betting at players request, answers players questions and assists them with the game/race.
  • Pays all winning bets according to proper odds.
  • Balances the money with ticket sales and payments to winners.
  • Accepts/disburses funds for account deposits/withdrawals.
  • Follows established procedures and policies of the Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
