About The Position

The Hickory Foundation YMCA is seeking a dynamic, hardworking, and enthusiastic individual to work with the sports department team and make a positive difference in the lives of children. The Sports Staff member assists with planning, developing, and executing programs offered by the department. The role requires reliability, serving as a positive role model, and consistency with the YMCA’s Christian mission and the policies of the YMCA of Catawba Valley.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED required.
Must be fun-loving, child-focused, and hardworking.
Must have a current North Carolina driver’s license.
Must be able to stand outside for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience and knowledge in soccer, baseball, flag football, volleyball, and basketball preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with planning, developing, and executing programs offered by the Sports Department.
Apply a basic understanding of fiscal management and the budget process.
Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications; training is provided by the YMCA.
Supervise sports staff, coaches, and referees in a mature, respectful, and professional manner.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with volunteers, members, and parents.
Assist with completing game schedules for all sports.
Help obtain sponsors for the Annual Giving Campaign.
Lead summer sports camps.
Prepare coach and parent packets for teams in each sport.
Handle printing schedules and registration forms, and possible delivery of printed materials.
Market and display sports information within the Y branch.
Communicate positively with coaches, referees, and participants’ families at all times.
Help create a safe, inclusive environment by following YMCA policies and procedures for abuse prevention, promptly reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.
