About The Position

As a YMCA Sports Program Lead, you'll help ensure practices and game days run smoothly while creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone involved. If you're a natural leader who enjoys working with youth, coaches, and families, this is a great opportunity to make a lasting impact in your community. If you're passionate about sports and can lead volleyball and basketball clinics while working some weekends, we'd love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basketball, soccer, flag football, and volleyball rules.
  • Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain through the YMCA).
  • Successful completion of background screening and required child abuse prevention training.
  • Be available to work weekday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays during the active sports season.
  • Arrive prepared and communicate with supervisors before each shift.
  • Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Model the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Follow all child abuse prevention policies, reporting requirements, and risk management procedures.
  • Perform moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, running, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred
  • Experience working with youth, families, or sports programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare courts and playing areas for practices and games.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participants, parents, coaches, and spectators.
  • Answer questions and provide game day and practice information.
  • Help oversee practices and games to promote safety and sportsmanship.
  • Officiate games while enforcing YMCA rules and sport-specific regulations.
  • Address concerns professionally and communicate incidents to the Program Director when needed.
  • Work closely with YMCA staff to create a positive experience for every participant.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized environment before, during, and after events.
