About The Position

This position is on a 10/12 Pay Plan at 0.8 FTE, which means working 10 months per year, yet having salary paid out over 12 months. Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the Sports Medicine Physician provides comprehensive outpatient care, including diagnosis, treatment, and counseling within the scope of sports medicine and primary care. This position emphasizes holistic health, patient access, and a strong student experience.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a medical school
  • License and Certification Requirements: Physicians - Specialty Services must possess and maintain: A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California Current board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) specialty or subspecialty appropriate for their assigned specialty duties A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties
  • Completion of one (1) or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to their assigned specialty duties

Nice To Haves

  • A valid California Department of Public Health-Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH-RHB) Supervisor & Operator Permit
  • Dual Board Certification in Primary Care in addition to Sports Medicine
  • Two (2) years of experience practicing Sports Medicine independently
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in Primary Care
  • Experience working with college populations (typically demonstrated through working with collegiate athletics programs and/or student health services)

Responsibilities

  • Treat sports injuries and common medical conditions
  • Evaluate injuries and create treatment and recovery plans
  • Perform basic medical procedures (stitches, splints, etc.)
  • Order and review tests like X-rays and labs
  • Educate patients on injury prevention and overall health
  • Work with other healthcare staff and SJSU Athletics
  • Keep accurate medical records
  • Participate in meetings and health programs
  • Help improve services and patient care
