About The Position

The Kroc Center is looking for a dedicated Sports Instructor to help plan and lead a variety of athletic programs and activities. In this role, you’ll ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants and volunteers. You’ll be responsible for coaching, teaching sports, and assisting in the development and execution of leagues, tournaments, and other recreational programs. Additionally, you'll contribute to the maintenance and organization of the facility, help with program promotion, and support ongoing staff training. This is a great opportunity to make an impact and grow within a supportive team! This position works up at 18 hours per week (evenings and Saturdays are required) and has a pay rate of $15.60 - $20.66 dependent on skills and experience. A shift differential of $1.00 per hour is paid for all shifts worked from 4:00 pm Friday through Sunday.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year experience in a recreational setting preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification for Adult, Child, and Infant.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army’s insurance carrier preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule.
  • Ability to address multiple projects in a timely manner while being responsive and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively ensure a safe recreation environment for all Kroc Center staff, volunteers, members and participants.
  • Assist in the planning, directing, and guidance of the athletic and recreation programs and activities of the Kroc Center.
  • Act as sports instructors and/or coaches for assigned programs.
  • Teach / lead various educational programs in the areas of arts, games, computer skills, and others.
  • Assist volunteer coaches, referees, leaders, and instructors in the delivery of effective sport, league, and recreation programs including league rules, sport rules, coaching code of conduct, coaching technique, and sport delivery functions as required.
  • Execute league and tournament schedules and act as instructor and/or referee when required for all sports or other competitive recreation programs.
  • Assist in the development of systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the programs.
  • Utilize the office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports related to all athletic programs, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required.
  • Ensure the attractive appearance, operational function, and general upkeep of the recreational facilities including equipment and furnishings.
  • In conjunction with the facilities department, establish an on-going preventative maintenance program for the recreational facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports, records, invoices, collections, and evaluations.
  • Assist in the development of programs and promotional strategies to increase athletic programs attendance and revenue.
  • Participate in designated staff training and professional development courses.
  • Report any suspicion of child abuse to the appropriate supervisor according to established guidelines and TSA/Kroc Center policy and procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings as directed by supervisor.
