About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Sports Information Professional I performs entry-level professional duties supporting athletics communications, media relations, and sports information functions. The incumbent contributes to a broad range of activities, including content creation, media relations support, statistical reporting, and game-day operations. The position supports the coordination and delivery of athletics communications across multiple platforms, including web, social media, print, and in-game materials. Work involves handling multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, requiring attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to apply established communications standards and procedures. Assignments are performed following defined guidelines and are reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with departmental and university expectations.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Experience supporting athletics communications, media relations, or sports information functions in a collegiate or professional sports environment.
  • Experience creating content across multiple communication platforms, including web, social media, print, and event-related materials.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and/or athletics website maintenance.
  • Experience assisting with live events and game-day operations, including media or event support activities.
  • Experience compiling or working with sports statistics and historical records.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, particularly in support of live events.
  • Ability to support multiple communications channels simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Working knowledge of integrated athletics communications workflows, including content creation, media relations support, statistical reporting, and game-day operations.
  • Working knowledge of game-day media operations, including press area setup, material distribution, and media support activities.
  • Ability to collect, input, maintain, and validate sports statistics using industry-standard software or systems.
  • Ability to compile, cross-check, and present statistical and informational data accurately under deadline conditions.
  • Ability to translate statistical and event information into clear, audience-friendly communications.
  • Ability to produce time-sensitive content, such as event summaries, recaps, and updates, under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments and competing priorities with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly in a live-event environment with shifting priorities.
  • Working knowledge of content production tools, such as basic graphic design and publishing software.
  • Ability to coordinate with photographers, videographers, and other support staff to gather and develop content.
  • Knowledge of athletics branding, editorial standards, copyright, and media usage guidelines, and ability to apply them appropriately.
  • Ability to interpret and apply established communications procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
  • Satisfactory completion of the background check process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using sports statistics software (e.g., StatCrew, Genius Sports, or similar platforms).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop) or similar content creation tools.
  • Familiarity with video streaming platforms or live event production support.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to athletics communications, statistics, and reporting.
