Sports Events Operations Intern- Spring 2027
About The Position
SMT is seeking a Sports Events Operations Intern to help prepare, deploy, and manage technology at sporting events across North America and potentially around the world. This is a hands-on, physically active internship rather than a traditional office-based role. Work may include long days on your feet, loading and unloading equipment, setting up monitors and video boards, running cables, and preparing event sites before competition begins. Event assignments may involve 10+ hour days, weekends, holidays, and frequent travel. The internship is on-site in Jacksonville, Florida, averaging 35–40+ hours per week, and includes travel for at least 75% of the internship. SMT covers travel accommodations. The spring-semester internship runs from mid-January through the end of April. Interns report to the Director of Events Administration.
Requirements
- Be a current senior or recent graduate.
- Be able to travel 50–75% to domestic and international events during the internship.
- Be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
- Be able to work in high-pressure environments and solve problems efficiently.
- Be dependable in punctuality and task performance.
- Have proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Have strong organizational, oral and written communication, and time-management skills.
Nice To Haves
- A major in Sport Management, Communications, Hospitality, or IT.
- Prior event management, sponsorship, networking, or IT experience.
- Knowledge of the sports industry, particularly tennis and golf.
- Fluency in a foreign language.
- Demonstrated leadership in athletics, academics, or past work experience.
Responsibilities
- Work with SMT staff to prepare equipment for event service delivery.
- Assist with day-to-day SMT Events Department duties, including setting up monitors and video boards, running cables, and assisting with equipment installation.
- Support other SMT event-based teams as needed, including IT, electronics, and video production.
- Be ready to work at SMT events as needed.
- Participate in loading, unloading, and inventory tracking of SMT equipment.
- Help maintain cleanliness and order in the warehouse.
