Sports Assistant- Basketball
About The Position
The Sports Assistant prepares fields and gymnasiums used for YMCA youth and adult sports while the spaces are occupied, including offsite facilities as needed. The role assists with sports league management and the development and delivery of sports programs and services. The Sports Assistant may serve as an official, referee, or timekeeper when needed, and supports participant satisfaction, member retention, and the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. All YMCA of Coastal Georgia employees are expected to model caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and to uphold the organization’s zero-tolerance policy for abuse and cooperate with investigations.
Requirements
- Sound working knowledge of applicable sports, league rules, and policies, as determined by season.
- Ability to communicate accurate program and sports information, including rules and policies, to parents and participants.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with staff, peers, and program participants.
- Ability to supervise large groups of participants.
- CPR and First Aid certification required within 30 days of employment.
- Must pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Set up and take down department equipment and facilities as required.
- Assist the Sports Director in managing sports leagues.
- Promote, administer, and help develop and implement youth and adult sports programs and services.
- Serve as an official, referee, or timekeeper as needed.
- Inspect facilities and equipment and report safety issues to the Sports Director.
- Provide program participants with accurate league information.
- Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participants.
- Support YMCA member retention and satisfaction through appropriate customer service.
- Assist with the YMCA Annual Campaign fundraising program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Model the YMCA’s character pillars of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Cooperate with internal and external investigations into allegations of abuse or misconduct.
