About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the foundation of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role involves assisting with the preparation, implementation, and event management of youth and adult sports programming. The Sports Aide will work under the guidance of the Youth and Family Program Director, ensuring that all sports leagues and instructional programs run smoothly according to YMCA rules and regulations. This position supports the Y's mission by contributing to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility within the community.

Requirements

Ability to move equipment; must have the strength to lift, carry, push or pull.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with children in a supervised setting is preferred.
Basic sports knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and implementing of sports activities.
Ensure all sport programs run smoothly by assisting where needed, including coaching, refereeing, running the score clock, and leading sport samplings or other classes.
Maintain the quality and inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials.
Assist in the proper storage of program equipment.
Maintain a positive and respectful manner of communication with families/parents.
Report all incidents to the supervisor and complete necessary reporting forms.
Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
Work cooperatively with professional staff, coworkers, and other departments.
Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and its programs.
Perform other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor.
Responsible for set-up and clean-up of the appropriate sports equipment on location.
