About The Position

LA28 is seeking a Sport Manager for Paralympic Athletics for the 2028 program. This role is critical within the LA28 Sport team, reporting to the Sport Manager – Athletics. The Sport Manager – Paralympic Athletics will lead all aspects of operational planning for Paralympic Athletics and will liaise directly with World Para Athletics. The position will also collaborate with the centralized Sport Planning team and other LA28 functions such as Venues and Infrastructure, Venue Management, Ticketing and Hospitality, Games services, Transport, Accommodation, Food and Beverage, Accreditation, Athlete Relations, Strategy, Marketing, Commercial, Technology, HR, and Finance. The role requires a strong background in para athletics, including experience managing and delivering events at various levels.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience delivering national and international level para athletics events in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, team building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Fluent working with Office suite products including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Self-starter with experience in defining tasks, seeking feedback, and evolving work.
  • Proven ability of building good interpersonal relationships with people across the organization and with external stakeholders, while balancing assertiveness with diplomacy.
  • A collaborative mindset; someone who prioritizes the team and fosters a culture of high performance without ego.

  • Ability to implement and manage change effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge of para athletics and event operations experience and exposure at multiple levels, including professional leagues or teams, federations, universities, and grassroots.
  • Direct Olympic and Paralympic sport experience at a previous OCOG, multi-sport Games or experience delivering IF level events is a significant asset.
  • Understanding and expertise within para athletics at the international and national level as well as coordination with international and US Sport governing bodies.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues on venue design, event planning, management and delivery across multiple functional areas.
  • Ability to work in an office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Ability to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.
  • International travel may involve travelling to different countries to observe global sporting events and will require a valid Passport.
  • Approximately 20% or less of working hours may involve international travel (1-2 times per year for 1-2 week intervals).
  • Domestic travel may involve traveling within the United States to observe global sporting events (0-3 times per year).
  • Local travel will consist of visiting local venues and attending meetings with local sport clubs, colleges and related organizations (0-2 times per month, increasing closer to 2028).

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with World Para Athletics for the development and design of competition and training venues.
  • Coordinate with LA28 Venues and Infrastructure and Event Management for sport/discipline specific input into venue development and design.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for para athletics, developing and refining Event Operating Plans.
  • Collaborate with World Para Athletics on competition and training schedules for para athletics.
  • Validate sport equipment requirements for para athletics, ensuring World Para Athletics requirements are met.
  • Provide sport-specific feedback for pre-Games, testing, and Games-time planning across the organization.
  • Input to Sport Planning on the development of sport testing and readiness events.
  • Coordinate with Timing, Scoring & Results to integrate World Para Athletics requirements into system and infrastructure planning.
  • Collaborate on the Sport Workforce strategy and planning for para athletics, liaising with USA Track & Field and the local sport community.
  • Lead the recruitment process for roles within Competition Management for para athletics.
  • On-board and provide day-to-day leadership for all Competition Management workforce within para athletics.
  • Support the development of para athletics specific testing and Games-time training workforce.
  • Act as the point of entry and stakeholder manager for World Para Athletics.
  • Liaise with World Para Athletics and coordinate with other Athletics staff for clear communication across Athletics disciplines.
  • Manage and track all World Para Athletics communication and brief leadership on status.
  • Manage Pre-Games IF Site visits for para athletics, developing agendas, coordinating participation, and producing reports.
  • Manage the completion and tracking of all inputs to each Sport Delivery Plan (SDP) for para athletics.
  • Provide reports and updates on the status of deliverables and tasks for para athletics planning.
  • Support the development of budgets and project plans with validated sport and discipline-specific information.
  • Lead all competition management workforce for para athletics during testing and Games-time to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Act as the integration point for all IF-related requirements for the delivery of competition and training for para athletics.

  • The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000.00 - $108,000.00.
