About The Position

This position provides primarily Pre-Award sponsored programs support for the faculty and staff in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). This position may include some post-award support as well to maintain proper cross training within the department. Support includes proposal development, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance. The specialist will interpret and apply federal, state, and local, and university policies and regulations to advise faculty and staff in preparing appropriate proposal budgets, including the calculation of indirect costs and determining allowable direct costs. The role involves attending national professional meetings and subscribing to electronic federal and state publications to stay current on changing regulations. The specialist will provide an organizational foundation for quality assurance efforts to support and promote the research enterprise in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, the specialist will work with the Associate Dean for Research to develop best practices for research administration in CVM, coordinate activities with internal and external stakeholders to develop research funding opportunities for CVM, and develop materials and presentations covering research program development for CVM faculty, staff, and students. A thorough knowledge of regulations applicable to sponsored programs administration (federal, state, and private) is required, including OMB Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, FAR, and state of Oklahoma purchasing policies, as well as University policies concerning sponsored programs, intellectual properties, and related issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Four years of experience in sponsored programs administration or a closely related field.
  • Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Efficiency in Excel programs.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including mail merge functions.
  • Excellent phone and personal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and implement various policies and procedures.
  • Team-oriented approach to tasks with co-workers.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities
