About The Position

The Harborview Medical Center – Spiritual Care Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Spiritual Care Resident. The mission of the Department of Spiritual Care is to provide high quality, cross-culturally sensitive spiritual care to patients, families and staff of Harborview Medical Center as well as to provide a program of pastoral education to clergy, theological students, and qualified lay persons in the hospital and the larger community which the Medical Center serves. The vision of the Department of Spiritual Care is to offer patients, families, students, and staff the opportunity to embrace the spiritual component of health, illness, and death. With empathy and compassion, we are called to be a tangible spiritual caring presence and/or a representation of God’s/Spirit’s love, hope, and forgiveness. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Enrolled in CPE program
  • Be in good standing with their endorsing body/faith community

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Theology, Divinity or equivalent religious studies

Responsibilities

  • Show commitment to patients by demonstrating the effective use of spiritual care process in providing cultural, religious/spiritual, age and developmentally appropriate care
  • Demonstrate creative and innovative decision making by facilitating patient/family/staff well-being and autonomy, integrating HMC policies and procedures and spiritual care standards and practices
  • Provide for specific needs of individual faith groups by fostering a multi-faith approach to hospital ministry
  • Administer sacraments and perform religious rites or arrange for appropriate religious leaders to do so
  • Plan, organize, direct and schedule on call service, educational programs, and other services that meet the needs of patients, families, staff and the community
  • Be enrolled and fully participate in the Clinical Pastoral Education program and meet minimum standards that include writing and negotiating an individual learning contract with a supervisor; attend all scheduled meetings; write a unit evaluation; produce the specified number of verbatim presentations for group and individual supervision; consult with CPE supervisor concerning personal and professional growth
  • Assist in preparing required departmental reports by entering in statistical data and other pertinent information on the medical centers computer network
