The professional rehab staff work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ functional recovery, facilitate successful discharges, and elevate patient care through quality initiatives, evidence-based research, and interdisciplinary care. ARU SLPs at GW Hospital provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with a full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities within their scope of practice, including Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Minimum 1-year post-graduation experience Inpatient Rehab or Acute Care
Independent in performing MBSS
Independent with speaking valve assessment and treatment for trach patients weaned from vent
Must have their DC License before start of employment.

Nice To Haves

Independent in performing FEES preferred

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with the entire interdisciplinary care team, especially Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers, Rehab nurses, OTs, PTs, and case management.
Participate in formal, in-person team conference meetings several times per week to discuss each patient’s plan of care and progress.
Provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with the full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities in the SLP’s scope of practice: Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.
