The professional rehab staff work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ functional recovery, facilitate successful discharges, and elevate patient care through quality initiatives, evidence-based research, and interdisciplinary care. ARU SLPs at GW Hospital provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with a full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities within their scope of practice, including Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Minimum 1-year post-graduation experience Inpatient Rehab or Acute Care
  • Independent in performing MBSS
  • Independent with speaking valve assessment and treatment for trach patients weaned from vent
  • Must have their DC License before start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Independent in performing FEES preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the entire interdisciplinary care team, especially Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers, Rehab nurses, OTs, PTs, and case management.
  • Participate in formal, in-person team conference meetings several times per week to discuss each patient’s plan of care and progress.
  • Provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with the full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities in the SLP’s scope of practice: Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.
