About The Position

ERP International is seeking a Speech Pathologist for a Full-Time position in support of the Education and Development Intervention Services (EDIS) program of the 42 Medical Group at Maxwell AFB, AL. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in speech pathology or communication disorders.
  • Graduate from a college or university that includes at least 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology by a regional accreditation organization and a speech pathology academic program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • At least 24 months of full-time experience within the past 60 months serving infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities.
  • At least 1 year of experience providing services under IDEA to children of any age.
  • Knowledge of current IDEA requirements regarding services in least restrictive setting.
  • Familiarity with Part C of IDEA and the requirements for measurable outcomes.
  • Experience as a member of an interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary early intervention team.
  • Experience in providing family-centered intervention or experience in a community-based service delivery system.
  • Possess and use interpersonal skills of compassion and empathy to assist emotionally distraught family members.
  • Have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to evaluate children, assist and teach families, articulate developmental needs, consult with families and professionals, explain services, and participate in team interactions.
  • Experience in developing functional outcomes for Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Skills and ability to provide competent face-to-face contact with infants/toddlers with disabilities, their families, team members, childcare providers, physicians, and officials.
  • Possess and use interpersonal skills of valuing inter- and trans-disciplinary work, handling professional disagreements effectively, and communicating the unique viewpoint and contributions in the field of early childhood occupational therapy.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech Pathologist.
  • Current certification of Clinical Competency in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
  • Current ARC or AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Evidence of current clinical practice and actively practiced in their discipline within the past 2 years, including professional references and verified privilege lists.

Nice To Haves

  • CP may telework during off-site patient appointments/meetings.
  • CP must have a government laptop (GFE), charging cord, and mouse issued by the established official worksite (MTF).
  • Use of Government desktop personal computers is discouraged.
  • Use of HCW-owned computer equipment is not authorized.
  • CP must have adequate internet connectivity and the means to be able to perform normal duties while teleworking.
  • If there isn’t adequate internet connectivity, the CP must report to the physical office location.
  • The Government will not procure/provide additional technology to facilitate teleworking.
  • The contractor is responsible for any equipment issued to the CP for the performance of telework.
  • Any equipment that is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair shall be reimbursed to the MTF by the contractor.
  • Prior to the beginning of any telework agreement, the “GFP Attachment” at DFARS PGI 245.103-72 must be completed and the task order modified to incorporate the attachment and the applicable clauses.
  • The CP will complete all MDG teleworking training and forms prior to teleworking.
  • Contractor Personnel providing services under this contract shall attend one Government approved/funded professional/technical skill update each year.
  • The training shall be no longer than one (1) week and shall be selected by the Government for course content that shall benefit the Government.
  • Any continuing education units that are acceptable to the applicable professional organization or licensing may be used to update licensure/certification, as the contractor employee chooses.
  • The Government may require the contract personnel to perform additional travel at the Government’s expense.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the full spectrum of speech therapy services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF.
  • Provide services to eligible children and their families in natural or least restrictive settings, including homes, DOD Schools, childcare homes/centers, and military hospitals/clinics. Services to hospitalized infants and toddlers will be by consultation only under physician supervision.
  • Participate in screening infants and toddlers (birth to two years) to determine the likelihood of developmental delay.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary evaluation team for infants and toddlers with potential delays to assess their level of functioning and identify strengths and concerns in cognitive, motor, communication, socio-emotional, and self-help/adaptive domains.
  • Assist in determining appropriate curriculum, strategies, and outcomes for child and family programming to address delays or potential delays and family concerns.
  • Participate in EDIS team meetings for pre-eligibility staffing and with families to determine eligibility.
  • Develop an appropriate Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) with the Early Intervention team and family, ensuring goals are family-centered, functional, meaningful, and have measurable outcomes.
  • Provide competent discipline-specific services through direct services, consultation, monitoring, or home-based treatment plans.
  • Provide discipline-specific in-service training to other EDIS staff to promote trans-disciplinary service delivery.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to other team members, Child Development Services staff, other child healthcare providers, and extended family members.
  • Provide home programs for parents to maintain progress between visits and explain parental rights and procedural safeguards.
  • Maintain current, up-to-date documentation of service delivery and service coordination.
  • Serve as a service coordinator (case manager) for families and as a liaison to school-based or other community-based service delivery programs.
  • Initiate and provide appropriate contacts, including reports, letters, documents, and privacy act releases.
  • Become competent in using the Special Needs Program Management Information System (SNPMIS) for client information and documentation.
  • Assist parents with transitional activities to ensure a smooth change in programming and location.
  • Participate in EIS/EDIS team/group interactions, work groups, and decision-making procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with families to promote understanding of the philosophy and conceptual framework of EIS.
  • Support ongoing process improvement initiatives, quality assurance activities, and preparations for monitoring and inspection visits.
  • Use language appropriate to the listener, considering family cultural differences in child development.
  • Design, select, and/or modify special curricula/therapy content.
  • Use systematic and evidence-based intervention strategies to foster communicative competence, including parents and caregivers in therapy sessions.
  • Provide appropriate instruction for carryover into everyday situations using family-provided materials.
  • Continually evaluate progress toward functional goals and modify treatment plans accordingly, discontinuing treatment when appropriate.
  • Discuss treatment plans and progress with families, physicians, other health professionals, and the EDIS team.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and foster development of those skills throughout the MTF.
  • Communicate and collaborate with appropriate EDIS program staff and the healthcare team to ensure patient needs are met without duplication of effort.
  • Read all MTF mandatory training and education documents.
  • Check mailboxes each duty day (electronic and/or physical).
  • Make the healthcare and MTF system as responsive to patients’ needs as possible.
  • Establish liaisons with case managers.
  • Coordinate services through the continuum of care for complex patients.
  • Gain and maintain access to GENESIS (MHS’s electronic health record system) to identify and review all Educational Support and Speech Therapy referrals.
  • Provide services within the MTF to patients within the age range permitted by their professional license and granted privileges, documenting all assessments, treatments, and patient interactions appropriately within the Defense Health Agency standard.
  • Prioritize patients referred for Educational & Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) in the event of scheduling conflicts.
  • Review family needs for any MEMS-eligible families who live off base to consider offering Early Intervention Services as appropriate.
