About The Position

IU Health is seeking a full-time Speech Pathologist to join their multidisciplinary acute care team. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating swallowing, speech, language, voice, and cognitive-communication difficulties in the inpatient adult population. The position requires collaboration within a team of 22 speech pathologists and offers opportunities for continuous education and skill development in a Trauma 1 academic acute care setting. The individual will recommend discharge dispositions, perform diagnostic evaluations, design treatment plans, and provide direct patient care, including supervision of support personnel and students. Participation in related activities supporting patient care, education, and department operations is also expected.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited academic program in speech pathology; or, if foreign trained, graduation from a speech pathology education program outside the US with educationally equivalent coursework accepted by Indiana PLA.
  • Current license in the State of Indiana.
  • Certificate of clinical competence awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or eligibility for this certificate.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tracheostomy and speaking valve use, including in-line with a ventilator.
  • MBSImp and MOCA certification.
  • Independence with swallowing instrumental assessments (VFSS, FEES).
  • Previous acute care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat swallowing, speech, language, voice, and cognitive-communication difficulties.
  • Recommend discharge disposition to next level of care appropriately.
  • Perform speech pathology services including diagnostic evaluations to determine level of impairment.
  • Design a treatment plan for improved communication and swallowing after administering appropriate tests and measures.
  • Perform direct patient care services including the supervision of support personnel and students.
  • Willingly participate in related activities in support of patient care, education, and department operations.
