About The Position

Eastpointe Community Schools is seeking a passionate and proactive Special Education Speech Pathologist for the 2026-27 school year. This role involves organizing and improving language development in special education students, engaging with staff, students, parents, and the community, and driving instruction with student achievement data. Eastpointe Community Schools is dedicated to transforming lives through a partnership with Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD), Michigan Department of Education (MDE), and the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leaders in Education (UVA-PLE). The district focuses on increasing educational expectations, developing a culture of support, and nurturing students' academic, behavioral, and interpersonal needs. Opportunities for staff mentoring, literacy coaching, and extra-curricular activities are available. The district provides 1:1 technology for students, online academic support programs, and supports students with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Speech-Language Pathologist license
  • Evidence of successful clinical experience in communication disorders and language development
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people and agencies associated with special education
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with parents
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in diagnostic assessments with students in grades 6-12
  • Skilled with documenting services provided to students
  • Ability to balance a caseload of students and meet deadlines for paperwork requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working with secondary aged students with disabilities
  • Experience working with PowerSchool and PowerSchool Special Education

Responsibilities

  • Organizing language development program for speech and language impaired students
  • Instructing individuals in both large and small group language activities
  • Performing speech and language diagnostic testing
  • Writing IEP goals and objectives and prescriptive activities based upon results of diagnostic testing
  • Keeping IEP progress reports updated per IEP schedule
  • Maintaining service logs for all students serviced
  • Medicaid Finalize speech only IEPs and METs
  • Acting as a resource person in the area of speech and language development and assistive technology
  • Communicating and working with parents with respect to a student's language strengths and weaknesses
  • Participating in collaborative planning with teachers
  • Selecting instructional materials to meet student needs
  • Performing other duties as assigned
