About The Position

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join its inpatient rehabilitation team on a PRN basis. The role requires two weekend shifts per month and one minor and one major holiday shift.

The Speech Pathologist provides advanced clinical evaluation, treatment, and documentation; works with patients and families to establish treatment priorities; adapts activities and the treatment environment to support patient participation; and mentors and provides guidance, education, or supervision to new or less experienced staff, students, and support personnel.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology (SLP).
• Virginia Speech Language Pathologist license.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• No prior experience as a Speech Language Pathologist is required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise in patient evaluation, treatment, and documentation.
• Collaborate with patients and/or families, whenever possible, to set treatment priorities and choose activities that maximize participation.
• Use creativity, diversity, and resourcefulness to encourage patient involvement, accommodate individual circumstances or needs, and adapt the treatment environment to optimize responses.
• Provide clinical mentoring, operational guidance, education, and/or supervision to new or less experienced staff, students, and support personnel.
• Proactively help new or inexperienced staff develop clinical and administrative skills, acting as an approachable and tactful mentor.
