About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY Diagnoses and provides treatment for clients/patients who exhibit communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an approved Masters level program in Speech Language Pathology. Experience: Minimum of two years of clinical experience in a health care facility. Demonstrated strong clinical background in Pediatric care. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Free from communication deficits which would interfere with duties. License/Certification/Registration: Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) preferred. Pennsylvania license in speech‑language pathology. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Manager of Rehabilitation Services. SUPERVISION GIVEN Supervision of students in Speech-Language Pathology is a possibility along with volunteers if appropriate to the setting.

Responsibilities

  • Implements objectives, policies and procedures of the Speech-Language Pathology department.
  • Adheres to record keeping procedures used in the Speech-Language Pathology department.
  • Contributes to the Speech‑Language Pathology department by attaining knowledge of hospital and community needs.
  • Informs Manager of Rehab Services of activities and opportunities for improving services.
  • Diagnoses and provides treatment for outpatients with speech, language, social communication, cognition, and swallowing disorders.
  • Assesses communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment.
  • Assesses cognition for the purpose of identifying functional impairment and to develop recommendations for treatment.
  • Assesses functional swallowing to determine impairments and to develop recommendations for treatment.
  • Selects and administers formal and informal tests to determine the extent of an individual’s impairment.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. progress reports, treatment plans, lesson plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) for the purpose of providing and ensuring the availability of information as required for reference, tracking and/or compliance with established regulations.
  • Must have experience with or satisfactory skills in using a computer as primary means of documentation and communication.
  • Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in conformance with established regulations.
  • Works collaboratively with other hospital departments, community agencies, and family/caregivers to provide quality care for clients/patients.
  • Communicates observations and concerns about clients to physicians, patient-family, or other appropriate medical staff.
  • Coordinates clients/patients treatment programs with other rehabilitation/education services they are receiving.
  • Gives clients' family members/caregivers information and the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns.
  • Participates in hospital meetings as assigned.
  • Provides in-service programs as requested .
  • Participates in trainings, meetings, seminaries, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Assists in maintaining quality assurance programs in speech-language pathology.
  • Becomes familiar with quality assurance program.
  • Assists in completion of quality assurance studies.
  • Participates in developing programs to meet the needs of clients.
  • Maintains speech-language facilities, equipment and materials.
  • Implements safety and health policies in using materials/equipment.
  • Categorizes and stores materials and information.
  • Manages ordering of materials under the guidance of Manager of Rehab Services.
  • Remains current and up to date with the evolving nature of healthcare and in particular with the current trends occurring in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Utilizes evidenced based treatment approaches as much as possible when developing treatment plans.
  • Participates in conferences which are appropriate to the provision of care of the health system.
  • Consistently demonstrates outstanding professionalism and teamwork.
  • Is punctual and demonstrates regular work attendance.
  • Will performs other related and miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Manager of Rehabilitation.
