Requirements

  • Ability to provide supervision and instruction for students with social, behavioral communication, physical, self-help, and cognitive disabilities.
  • Knowledge of applied behavioral analysis and discrete trail training; knowledge of PECS systems and a variety of organizational systems for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Ability to provide supervision and instruction for students with social, behavioral, communication, physical, self-help and cognitive disabilities.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and interventions designed for students with social, behavioral, communication, physical, self-help, and cognitive disabilities.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn interventions designed for students with developmental disabilities including but not limited to the following: social, behavioral, communication, physical, self-help, and cognitive disabilities, antecedent/behavioral package, one-to-one discrete trial teaching, modeling, incidental teaching, peer coaching, pivotal response training, visual supports & schedules. Self-regulation, social stories.
  • Specialized skills in working with students with significant communication disorders including PECS systems and augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with other staff to develop IEPs, work with regular education staff to implement inclusionary opportunities, conduct age appropriate assessments, and facilitate IEP meetings.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, current state special education rules and regulation and compliance issues relative to programming for students with disabilities.
  • Ability to complete training in Crisis Prevention Intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to assess, provide therapy, collaborate with school personnel, ability to develop educational goals, and facilitate the IEP process.
  • Experience in the implementation of the requirements of IDEA, RTI, and the provision of inclusionary and individualized services for students with disabilities.
  • Experience with Easy IEP scheduling, case management and data collection.
  • Experience with a spectrum of disabilities and wide variety of communication disorders, augmentative communication systems and assistive devices.
  • Willingness to be trained in other programs, methods, and system utilized by the department.
  • Work with Tenncare reimbursements.
  • Report to work on time and regularly. Sign in/out at each school.
  • Conduct progress monitoring related to all IEP goals/objectives (at least 2 data points per goal each week), and place a copy in the student’s special education file, prior to mid term and 9-week progress reports. Use the data points collected to complete the mid term and 9-week progress reports sent home to parents.
  • Know your students’ skill development and use data to adjust your teaching and drive decisions.
  • Attach documents to Easy IEP within 5 school days of each meeting.
  • Complete all student service entries for student in documentation software within two weeks.
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport communicating regularly with teachers, students, parents/guardians on student progress. Document all communications in EasyIEP contacts.
  • Stay up-to-date on all laws and procedures related to special education.
  • Understand the Job Expectations of Para-professionals and your responsibility in managing and supporting them.
  • Perform all additional duties assigned by your building administrator.
  • Keep your administrator informed of any major changes in behavior or academics related to students on your case load.
