About The Position

Under the supervision of a New York State licensed Speech Language Pathologist supervisor, this role involves evaluating and developing therapeutic plans for oral motor, communication, and feeding needs of individuals with disabilities, disorders, and injuries. The position utilizes therapeutic devices and equipment to restore maximum performance of speech and language modalities, and involves planning and supervising patients, family, and/or significant others in the use of equipment and exercise regimens. The role also includes participating in patient communication and interdisciplinary care planning, completing contemporaneous documentation using electronic health records, tracking hours, meeting with a direct supervisor, and adhering to clinical fellowship protocols. The position must follow the scope of practice as outlined by ASHA and NYSED supervised experience requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in speech-language pathology from a New York State registered licensure qualifying program, a program accredited by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) or the equivalent (as determined by NYS Education Department).
  • Willingness to take initiative.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Highly flexible personality type.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of AAC/AT and communication applications.
  • Experience and knowledge of oral motor structures and function.
  • Experience and knowledge about swallowing and feeding issues.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex physical and communication delays.
  • Experience with intellectual and developmental delays.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records, ideally Next-Gen.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and develops therapeutic plans to address oral motor, communication, and feeding needs of the PWS.
  • Provides Speech and Language Habilitation/Rehabilitation services for the patient as ordered by a physician.
  • Treats people we support (PWS) with disabilities, disorders, and injuries related to the area of Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Makes use of therapeutic devices and other equipment to prevent regression or restore maximum performance of speech and language modalities.
  • Plans, directs and supervises PWS, family and/or significant others in the use of equipment and exercise regimen.
  • Participates in patient communication and interdisciplinary care planning for individual patient needs.
  • Completes contemporaneous documentation using electronic health records.
  • Keeps track of hours, meets with direct supervisor, and ensures adherence to the protocols for their clinical fellowship.
  • Follows the scope of practice as outlined by the National Organization, American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and consistent with New York State Education Department (NYSED) supervised experience requirements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
