About The Position

The Austin Centers for Exceptional Students is a multifaceted special education program, designed specifically for students with emotional disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, specific learning disabilities or other educational challenges. Position Summary Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) The Speech Language Pathology Assistant will work under the supervision of an SLP-CCC to evaluate, diagnose, develop, and implement appropriate therapy plan for identified students in accordance with student Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). Additionally, they will collaborate with IEP team members to ensure implementation of proposed goals and skill acquisition across all settings.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of an SLP, evaluate and diagnose students who have been identified with Speech & Language impairments
  • Plan and implement Speech & Language treatment plans based on assessment results, in accordance with eligibility criteria and in collaboration/consensus of the IEP team
  • Provision and training to members of the student’s educational team for implementation and/or carryover of student programs
  • Collaborate and communicate with other members of the educational team
  • Participate in IEP meetings and team meetings relevant to supporting the students with identified special needs within the school or community environment
  • Report writing for annual, triennial and progress reports in accordance with IEP standards and practices
  • Document student’s performance via data collection and treatment notes and place information in the ACES database and in IEP Pro
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure Augmentative Communication Devices are customized for each student and are being utilized correctly
  • Communicate with family members and outside professionals regarding student’s progress/needs when appropriate
  • Ensure Speech & Language Department has appropriate and ample therapy materials
  • Uphold ASHA and State of Arizona standards and licensure requirements
