About The Position

Under the direction of the Director, Special Education, and under the direction and monitoring supervision of the speech pathologist(s), assists in providing instruction specific to the area of speech and language communication to students identified as having special needs; monitors the use of augmentative communication devices and systems; does related work as required.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in a state-approved speech-language pathology assistant training program, or a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech Language Pathology.
  • One year of paid experience working with children in a structured organizational environment.
  • Must possess a valid California license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant granted by the California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license prior to the completion of the probationary period.
  • Ability to be covered under the District property/liability insurance.
  • Proof of Education Completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification to satisfy the education requirement for the position.
  • Official college transcript showing coursework and an Associate's or higher degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • California License as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct therapy and follows documented treatment plans or protocols designed by the designated speech pathologist.
  • Assists instructional personnel in the implementation of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).
  • Works directly with students, either individually or in small groups reinforcing established therapy goals utilizing repetitive drill exercises and practicing generalization/carryover skills.
  • Documents student performance such as tallying data; prepares charts, records; graphs and reports information.
  • Supports the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in research projects and in-service training programs and/or family or community education.
  • Assists with clerical duties, such as record keeping, materials preparation, scheduling.
  • Exhibits compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • May be required to provide services and to give and receive information in a second language in addition to English.
  • Position may require employees to drive to multiple school sites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
