About The Position

This Speech Language-Pathologist position is a per diem role with a flexible schedule, offering opportunities for both new graduates and experienced professionals. The role involves providing evidence-based intervention tailored to the age and learning needs of individual students, supporting the instructional program, and working collaboratively with families, staff, and other professionals. The Speech Language Pathologist will serve a full range of communication disorders across all age levels and maintain accurate records of student progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders
  • NYS teaching certificate
  • Strong knowledge base in speech-language development and speech-language disorders.
  • Strong skill set in diagnosis and intervention.
  • Ability to engage in continuing education experiences to update knowledge base and hone skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic computer skills and to access district databases for review and input.
  • Ability to communicate student’s current level of functioning or other pertinent information orally and in written reports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current literature and trends relating to the profession.
  • Ability to balance work to use expertise most effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage workload.
  • Meet the performance standards of the state, counties, and school districts.
  • Must be fully prepared to meet the needs of our diverse student body.
  • Design a data-based system for decision making, including gathering and interpreting data with individual students.

Responsibilities

  • Foster awareness of communication disorders and their prevention.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles for the prevention of conditions resulting in communication disorders.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ communication disorders.
  • Review clinical records and case histories.
  • Administer, score, and analyze standardized and non-standardized speech-language assessments.
  • Inform and instruct the team on intervention strategies consistent with Evidence Based Practices.
  • Attend CPSE-CSE meetings, which may occur outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Create and develop required reports and treatment plans according to specified guidelines.
  • Generate speech language therapy prescriptions for needed services in accordance with New York state and county guidelines.
  • Provide intervention/treatment appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individual student, selected through an evidence-based decision-making process.
  • Plan, develop, and implement specific treatment programs and activities for individual students in accordance with New York State Education Law requirements and agency policies.
  • Ensure IEP mandates are fulfilled and document progress toward goals on the IEP.
  • Design and implement plans that adhere to state performance standards (e.g., Common Core), are chronologically and developmentally appropriate, reflect differentiated instruction techniques, incorporate technology, and are creative.
  • Contribute to the IEP process by devising appropriate annual goals and short-term objectives that impact the attainment of educational goals.
  • Engage students in activities that are interesting, meaningful, and individualized to reflect each student’s developmental level.
  • Ensure assessments and intervention strategies are evidence-based.
  • Provide clear and succinct direction to students.
  • Provide care and services to promote a safe environment for students and staff.
  • Organize and maintain required daily treatment notes and records for each student.
  • Maintain all required attendance and billing records in accordance with stated deadlines.
  • Ensure all pertinent data is found in students’ medical records.
  • Ensure all students receive quality, culturally competent services using scientific, research-based practices.
  • Help students develop self-advocacy skills appropriate to age and ability level.
  • Design service delivery models that meet the needs of individuals in the least restrictive environment by conducting individual and group therapy sessions using push-in and/or pull-out models.
  • Establish an effective data collection and charting system to monitor students’ progress.
  • Analyze and evaluate data and the treatment plan at various stages to adjust treatment as needed to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Comply with federal and state mandates as well as local and agency policies in the performance of duties, including IEP development, Medicaid billing, report writing, and treatment plan/therapy log development.
  • Follow the therapy schedule established by the Speech Department Head.
  • Maintain a student treatment load of 50 billable sessions per week.
  • Utilize Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) procedures as applicable and necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as in conjunction with other staff members and members of the instructional team.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all Beyond Support Network equipment and supplies in treatment rooms.
  • Submit inventory annually upon request.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are used appropriately and maintained in good condition.
  • Submit maintenance requests when necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the room and its contents.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements for licensure and certification as required by the New York State Education Department.
  • Maintain high professional standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with other staff and families.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Department Head, Principal, and/or Director of Education.
  • Work in partnership with others to meet students' needs.
  • Act as a consultant to the educational team and school personnel on matters of speech-language therapy.
  • Instruct students and families in treatment and procedures to be continued at home.
  • Participate in staff training, in-services, committee, and departmental team meetings.
  • Refer students and their families to community resources and services when needed.
  • Work with colleges and universities when assigned as directed by the Beyond Support Network.
  • Comply with all agency, county, and State regulations as they apply to services and evaluations provided within the community.
  • Complete and provide proof of completion of The Early Intervention training PAPI – Parents as Primary Interventionists.
  • Maintain an active Health Commerce Account, allowing access to NYSEIS.
  • Work closely with the Evaluation Team and respond to the directives of the team supervisor and provide billing documentation to the team supervisor as required.
