About The Position

The Speech & Language Pathologist works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment. This role provides medically related therapy services to ensure residents attain or maintain their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being, prioritizing resident choice and comfort. All services must align with facility policies, quality improvement guidelines, and relevant regulations. The Speech & Language Pathologist participates in resident-centered care and team-based management, engaging in daily life activities within their assigned household. The core focus of SEM Haven is resident-centered care based on resident choice, fostering a family environment that includes residents, staff, and their families. The ultimate goal is to support each member. The staff member's role is to provide residents with support, friendship, and kindness, enabling them to live as independently as they wish. The most crucial function is to treat everyone with respect, recognizing that all individuals are equally important. As part of a family team, staff members have the additional responsibility to perform necessary tasks to maintain life within the household, within their knowledge and training. These tasks may include assisting with food preparation/serving, tidying living and work areas, removing trash, cleaning spills, transporting residents, attending household meetings/learning circles, and fulfilling simple resident requests.

Requirements

• Bachelor or Master’s degree as required for initial professional preparation in Speech-Language Pathology.
• One year minimum health care experience, preferably in long-term care.
• Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Ohio.
• Freedom from illegal use of drugs and freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace is essential.
• Must be able to speak, read & write the English language in an understandable manner.
• Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of position can be fully met.
• Patience, listening skills, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
• Humor – interpersonal skills.
• Respect for all people: residents, co-workers, family members, doctors, volunteers, and anyone who visits our home.
• Respect for possessions – keeping living and work areas clean, orderly and presentable at all times as if company is on the way.
• Flexibility – willingness to modify job duties for the overall good of the home and our residents.

Responsibilities

• Provides medically related therapy services to assure that each resident can attain or maintain his/her highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being with resident choice and comfort always a priority.
• Ensures all services are in accordance with facility policies and procedures, quality improvement guidelines and local, state and federal regulations.
• Participates in resident-centered care and team based management.
• Is involved in daily life activities in his or her assigned household.
• Provides residents with support, friendship, and kindness, so they may live as independently as they wish to in their homes.
• Treats everyone encountered with respect.
• Performs whatever tasks are necessary to maintain life on the household, within knowledge and training (e.g., assist with food preparation/serving; picking up clutter, removing trash, cleaning spills; transporting residents; attending household meetings/learning circles and fulfilling simple requests for residents).
