About The Position

The Speech/Language Pathologist (1.0 FTE) will assess and treat students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders within the educational setting. This role reports to the Administrator for Student Services and the Building Principal. The position involves developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and providing direct therapy services that are strength-based and child-centered. The role also includes participation in Child Find screenings, collaboration with school staff, parents, and community providers, and staying current with professional developments.

Requirements

  • State of Massachusetts Speech, Audiology and Hearing Licensure
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • State of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Speech and Language Teacher.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Selects, administers and interprets speech/language evaluations.
  • Uses evaluation results and/or data to determine strengths and concerns in the areas of speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language and oral motor skills in order to develop appropriate student speech/language therapy goals.
  • Develops and adheres to weekly speech/language therapy schedule of services and prepares materials and therapy space for instructional activities.
  • Provides high quality direct IEP/504 team-determined speech/language therapy services that are strength-based and child-centered.
  • Participates in Child Find screenings.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders.
  • Maintains thorough confidential documentation of speech-language therapy sessions.
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in the student support team, IEP, staffing and eligibility meetings as required.
  • Develops Individual Education Programs for students receiving speech/language therapy services and implements therapy sessions that target IEP goals.
  • Pursues continuing education opportunities that facilitate relevant and appropriate professional growth in order to maintain professional certification/licensure.
  • Collaborates/communicates with school staff, parents and community service providers to ensure that students’ skills are generalized across settings.
  • Keeps current with developments in the field by participating in professional opportunities.
  • Prepares for scheduled sessions and has written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Assists in designing, developing and implementing alternate communication systems and strategies.
  • Able to provide information concerning the nature, purpose and outcome of speech/language therapy services to students, parents and professionals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administrator for Student Services and the building Principal.
