About The Position

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in Acute Care (Inpatient) at Texas Health Frisco is responsible for performing age-appropriate patient treatments using therapeutic techniques within the scope of their professional license. This role involves educating patients and families, maintaining patient safety, and communicating with healthcare personnel regarding patient care. The SLP will also motivate non-compliant patients and demonstrate competence in age-specific care. The department offers self-scheduling, opportunities for growth, and the ability to work with adults, NICU, and MBS patients.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Speech Language Pathology required
  • Post-Baccalaureate degree recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Required
  • SLP - Speech Language Pathology Texas Speech Language Pathology License Required upon hire
  • SLP-I - Speech Language Pathology Intern Texas Speech Language Pathology Required upon hire
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support Required prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English

Responsibilities

  • Performs age appropriate patient treatment
  • Uses therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment.
  • Performs treatment procedures that are within the scope of the professional license.
  • Performs/delegates technical procedures appropriately and safely.
  • Utilizes a variety of treatment techniques to achieve goals, if necessary.
  • Determines patient response to treatment and evaluates progress (reassessment).
  • Educates patient and family through instruction, demonstration, and/or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, home programs/self-management and assistive equipment.
  • Maintains patient safety throughout treatment.
  • Communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues.
  • Demonstrates competence in the performance of age-appropriate patient treatment and individualizes care based on age specific needs.
  • Motivates non-compliant or unmotivated patients to participate in therapy.
