About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions that vary from semester to semester based on program needs. The university, Metropolitan State University (MSU Denver), was founded in 1965 to serve underrepresented students and continues to serve over 16,000 diverse students. MSU Denver is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado, serving the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state. The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a graduate program with an optional concentration in bilingual (Spanish-English) service provision. The department also operates the Bookhardt Family Speech-Language Clinic, offering free services to the Denver-metro community. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach credit hours in undergraduate and graduate courses within the department, depending on departmental needs and applicant qualifications. Teaching may occur in various formats, including face-to-face, online, or a hybrid approach.

Requirements

  • Entry-level clinical degrees for speech-language pathology or audiology.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association, or similar professional credential.
  • Research doctorate in audiology, speech-language pathology, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in the discipline.
  • Prior experience teaching courses using the Canvas learning system.
  • Experiences working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student populations including (but not limited to) students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans and English language learners.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more credit hours as determined by the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Be available for consultation with students outside of classes, either in-person or remotely.
  • Conduct student assessments as prescribed by the curriculum.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures regarding students and faculty as established by the University and Department.
  • Actively participate in the effective evaluation of individual students, individual courses, and programmatic assessment as needed.
  • Teach class content based on the syllabus and follow any department guidelines.
  • Follow university policies on student evaluation.
  • Participate in peer reviews.
  • Teach in various formats—face-to-face, online, or a mix—depending on course needs.
  • Be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student body.
