About The Position

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. This Speech Language Pathologist will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing developmental and diagnostic evaluations for children ages birth to 5. This position requires experience in the evaluation and treatment of autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities, familiarity with state systems of care. Effective oral and written communications skills are required to share evaluation findings and recommendations to families and other providers. The position requires knowledge and experience with standard evaluation methods as well as informal assessment for language, speech, and social communication. The position also provides opportunities for clinical instruction and supervision, training, and consultation. This position involves participation as member of an interdisciplinary evaluation team to conduct assessment of speech/language/communication skills in young children; participate in administration and scoring of autism diagnostic measures with psychologist team members; conduct staffing meetings with evaluation team members to determine diagnostic decisions; participate in feedback sessions with families to share diagnoses, rationale, and recommendations/next steps. These activities will be conducted primarily with Spanish-speaking families and young children 0-3. Complete required documentation around clinical evaluation tasks, including chart review, evaluation scoring, submission of billing and progress notes, and report-writing. Support administrative team in triage decisions around monolingual and bilingual referrals for evaluations.

Requirements

Master's degree in Speech Pathology or an equivalent discipline.
At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.
State of New Mexico Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Experience in the evaluation and treatment of autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities.
Familiarity with state systems of care.
Effective oral and written communications skills.
Knowledge and experience with standard evaluation methods as well as informal assessment for language, speech, and social communication.
