About The Position

The Speech and Language Pathologist will be responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, developing educational plans, and delivering speech and language therapy to students with special needs. This role involves collaboration with teachers, special education staff, and parents to ensure the effective implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and to support students' communication development.

Requirements

  • Registered Speech Therapist or Equivalent
  • Appropriate MA DESE License Required
  • Experience with students with all disabilities
  • Experience in Augmentative/Alternative Communication Systems and Computer Technology

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic assessments of children suspected of or diagnosed as having special needs, speech, language, and voice problems, including children who would use adaptive technology devices for augmentative communication.
  • Consult regularly with regular and special education teachers regarding ways to meet the needs of special needs students assigned to classrooms.
  • Instruct teachers with assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
  • Participate actively in the Evaluation process and TEAM meetings.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate educational plans as directed by the Evaluation TEAM chairperson.
  • Ensure the orderly and timely implementation of Individual Educational Plans.
  • Provide speech and language therapy on an individual or group basis.
  • Serve as a consultant to teachers in the area of speech and language for students enrolled in regular special classes, including pre-referral services.
  • Report the progress of the student to the parent, teacher, and other concerned personnel on a scheduled basis.
  • Serve as a liaison between the parent, teacher, and other school staff in the area of speech and language.
  • Submit all required schedules and reports to the Principal, the Director, and the Supervisor of Special Education.
