About The Position

Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP KC plays a critical role in ensuring our students are on the path toward college, career, and beyond. As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will provide direct support to students with disabilities to help them access grade-level content and meet their individualized learning goals. Working under the direction of the Special Education Teacher and school leadership, you will support the implementation of IEPs, reinforce instruction, and help maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. This role is critical in ensuring students receive consistent, high-quality support throughout the school day while fostering independence, confidence, and academic growth.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 60 hours of college credit & Para Certification
  • Experience working with children, preferably students with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to educational equity and serving underserved communities
  • Satisfactory outcome of a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred
  • Applicants currently pursuing a certification may apply before certification is received. All certifications must be acquired and on file with KIPP KC before the end of the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group instructional support to students with disabilities.
  • Reinforce lessons and skills introduced by the Special Education and general education teachers.
  • Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum through accommodations and modifications.
  • Assist with implementing IEP goals, behavior plans (BIPs), and instructional strategies.
  • Help students build independence in academic, social, and functional skills.
  • Support the creation of a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and support positive student behavior.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers on performance and engagement.
  • Assist with transitions, routines, and supervision throughout the school day.
  • Collaborate closely with Special Education teachers, general education teachers, and related service providers.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development as required.
  • Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs and progress.
  • Support consistent implementation of instructional and behavioral plans across settings.
  • Assist students with physical, personal, or mobility needs as required (e.g., transitions, classroom movement).
  • Support students during non-instructional times (arrival, lunch, dismissal, etc.).
  • Ensure student safety at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and school policies.
  • Follow all school procedures and expectations with professionalism and reliability.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and school events as required.
  • Complete documentation or data tracking as directed by the Special Education team.
