Working under the supervision of a special education teacher, this role provides instructional support and assistance to students with disabilities. The SPED Paraprofessional will assist the teacher in implementing the special education instructional program, work with students individually and in small groups, and prepare materials and resources. Responsibilities also include monitoring student activities, maintaining discipline, observing and recording student behavior, and communicating student needs to instructional staff. The role requires the use of various equipment, including computers and assistive technology, and participation in staff development and meetings. Safety precautions must be understood and applied. Additional duties may be assigned by supervisors. The position involves assisting physically impaired students, supporting self-care skills, implementing behavioral strategies, working with students with various disabilities, using crisis intervention techniques, and collaborating with general education teachers in inclusive settings.
