About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas. The Special Education Paraprofessional works closely with general education and special education teachers to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and diverse learning needs. This role provides targeted instructional support, assists with behavior interventions, and helps maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate is patient, collaborative, and passionate about supporting students with special needs in achieving academic and personal success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and passing score on a paraprofessional exam OR Associate’s degree or higher
  • Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting
  • Ability to successfully complete required Nevada state background checks and clearances
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist general education and special education teachers with lesson delivery, classroom activities, and instructional support.
  • Work with students one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support IEP goals.
  • Support differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans.
  • Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom setup and organization.
  • Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and provide social-emotional support.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Encourage student independence, engagement, and positive behavior.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess to ensure safety.
  • Substitute for teachers when needed to support continuity of instruction.
  • Assist with documentation and data collection related to student progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Model professionalism, patience, and high expectations in all interactions.
