About The Position

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing students' functional sensory motor development, planning and implementing appropriate treatment, identifying architectural barriers, and providing recommendations for accessibility and program development within the Special Education Department.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and schedules.

  • Ability to infuse therapy information into meaningful, functional school-based activities.
  • Master's Degree.
  • Occupational Therapy License OTR/L (Occupational Therapist, Registered, Licensed).
  • CPR Certified.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.

  • Time management and organizational skills that allow the therapist to create a schedule for providing services to students on their caseload at multiple campuses, complete required documentation and attend appropriate meetings for students on their caseload.
  • Interprets outside medical and outside therapy reports for the purpose of providing information as it relates to school based therapy.
  • Performs site visits during Community Based Instruction for the purpose of consulting regarding interventions and assistance as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses students' fine motor, sensory motor, and functional abilities to determine service eligibility and develop recommendations for treatment, assistive devices, and classroom modifications.
  • Collaborates with parents, teachers, special education team members, administration, maintenance personnel, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with Federal law, State guidelines, and PVUSD policies.
  • Develops IEP goals, interventions, and educational materials to address students’ sensorimotor deficits and ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Identifies structural issues to remove barriers or modify access for students with physical limitations and/or identify appropriate assistive technology.
  • Instructs students and staff on developmental, sensory, medical, and/or behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices, and implementation of plans for addressing functional limitations.
  • Interprets outside medical and therapy reports as they relate to school-based therapy.
  • Maintains files and records, including progress reports, attendance logs, evaluations, IEPs, and billing information, for reference and compliance.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and courses for conveying and gathering information.
  • Performs site visits during Community Based Instruction to consult regarding interventions and assistance.
  • Prepares written materials such as correspondence, emails, goals, Medicaid billings, and clinical notes.
  • Provides direct occupational therapy services to develop students' sensorimotor skills in compliance with established goals and objectives.
  • Researches resources and methods, including intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools, and community resources, to determine appropriate approaches for addressing students’ functional goals.
  • Responds to inquiries from parents, staff, and students regarding the referral process.
  • Makes appropriate arrangements for movement/transportation of equipment on the property control list.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
