About The Position

This position is for a SPED Life Skills teacher at Southeast High School. The role involves working under the direction of the building principal to provide instruction and support to students with various academic and behavior needs, as determined by their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois PEL with LBS1 high school endorsement
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills in working with administrator, teachers, students, parents and staff
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively teach students with various academic and behavior needs
  • Ability to informally and formally assess learning and / or behavioral needs of students

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the building principal
  • Provide instruction as determined in the students’ IEPs
  • Implementation of district’s adopted special education curriculum
  • Participate in the development of comprehensive Individual Education Plans for identified students
  • Implementation and assessment of students’ IEP goals
  • Implement progress monitoring and data collection as determined through IEP
  • Provide information to parents relative to strategies that can be used at home to support the school’s effort
