About The Position

This position helps meet the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. The aide will assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. This role works under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Some experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Help manage behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed.
  • Recognize differences in each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly.
  • Work with individual students or small groups and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist in managing student behavior in the classroom and common campus areas in accordance with response to intervention (RTI), school-wide positive behavior support protocols, Student Code of Conduct, and student handbook.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.
