About The Position

As an Inclusion Teacher, you will collaborate with regular education teachers to plan and present lesson plans, create assessments, and ensure the needs of all students in the classroom are met. The focus is on scaffolding activities and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students, not just those with special education needs, to keep them from feeling singled out. Instruction may be provided within the regular classroom setting, resource setting, and/or small classroom setting. You will develop Individualized Student Programs (IEP) and ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment. Building a partnership with families and encouraging their active participation is also a key aspect of this role. You will also direct the work of assigned instructional aides.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a regular education teacher or multiple teachers to plan and present lesson plans.
  • Create assessments to ensure the needs of all students in the classroom are being met.
  • Scaffold activities and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provide direct support to students by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.
  • Develop Individualized Student Programs (IEP) for students and maintain compliance with all Federal Regulations and State Policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment.
  • Design engaging classroom activities and differentiated lessons so that all students may access the curriculum and benefit from the educational experience.
  • Formally and informally assess student learning to create a comprehensive learning program, which may require developing alternative assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Co-Teacher, teaching and grade-level teams, and other staff, especially the instructional support team, to plan and share student work.
  • Build a partnership with families, encouraging their active participation in students’ learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Special Services.
  • Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
