About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) role is critical for ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. This position requires the ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which can change daily. The SPT I must be flexible to handle various customer demands and work in a production environment with emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times. The role involves working in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits, and maintaining a neat and clean work area. The individual will be responsible for pucking, aliquoting, sorting, and storing samples. There are equal amounts of standing and sitting throughout the shifts.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.
  • Flexibility to handle various customer demands.
  • Availability for weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime.
  • Data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
  • Ability to work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of staff.
  • Adherence to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Ability to keep work area neat and clean.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
