About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, requiring a data entry background. The position requires strong organizational skills, flexibility to adapt to daily operational changes, and customer service awareness. While the majority of the schedule is on nightshift, staffing needs may require availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.

Requirements

Basic understanding of computers
Ability to sit or stand for long periods.

Previous laboratory experience
Medical background, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory

Responsibilities

Perform functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
Perform all functions with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
Maintain proper organization and demonstrate understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered.
Learn and comply with regulations related to test ordering.
Enter data accurately with the ability to maintain 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Work in a biohazard environment while practicing standard safety habits.
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
Keep work area neat and clean.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to change.
