About The Position

The Specimen Procurement Specialist / Collector is responsible for the accurate and efficient collection, documentation, and shipment of biological specimens for laboratory testing. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while upholding all regulatory and safety standards

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and general computer skills.
Ability to learn and master new software systems.
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle biological materials safely and appropriately.

Nice To Haves

Experience in specimen collection or healthcare preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Instruct and assist at collection sites on proper sample collection procedures.
Order tests and organize specimens for laboratory testing, including data entry, container labeling, and verifying patient demographics.
Receive and perform initial inspection of specimens provided by patients.
Complete all required paperwork and electronic documentation accurately for laboratory processing.
Obtain patient demographics and insurance information as needed.
Maintain clear communication with managers, supervisors, and other team members.
Accurately fill out requisition order forms (paper or online).
Package and ship specimens to the laboratory or arrange for courier pickup.
Monitor and maintain inventory of collection supplies, ensuring readiness for daily operations.
Adhere to HIPAA and OSHA requirements for patient privacy and workplace safety.
Ensure proper specimen stability and integrity during collection, handling, and transport.
Perform initial quality checks on specimens and resolve discrepancies.
Provide excellent customer service to patients, clinics, and providers.
Represent the organization professionally at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment at the collection site.
