About The Position

A Specimen Processor I prepares and handles specimens received for testing. Specimen Processors will work with management and quality team members to ensure laboratory activities are defined, documented, and completed to support inspection readiness. They will also ensure compliance is maintained through procedures, training, and documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Data entry experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, multitasking and teamwork skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multitask.
  • Basic computer knowledge needed.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direct supervision of an employee or supervisor who is trained and competent in all relative procedures and processes pertaining to accessioning as well as other assigned processes.
  • Prepares and handles specimens for testing, including assigning an internal tracking number (accession ID), comparing and verifying identifiers on specimens match test order, ensuring specimens are labeled appropriately, communicating important information pertaining to testing, looking for and documenting problems with specimens, scanning, filing, and electronically saving paperwork received with specimens, filing and temporary storing specimens until test release, transporting specimens to testing labs, and packaging specimens for return, or external/internal lab send out.
  • Complies with and maintains competency in all assigned laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Observes all compliance and regulatory requirements, particularly those associated to data security and patient confidentiality.
  • Actively participates in and maintains accepted laboratory standards for continuing education.
  • Maintains ethical standards in the performance of testing and in interactions with co-workers and other staff.
  • Plays an active role within the team and helps to create a positive work environment. This includes participating in team building events and communicating positively with others.
  • Arrives to work on time and is regular in attendance.
  • Meets productivity and quality standards/rates set by the department and lab operations.
  • Works with team members to resolve department problems and help implement improvement projects.
  • Supports leadership by providing feedback to better support the team and needs of the department. This includes responding to department and company surveys.
