About The Position

The Specimen Processing Manager will oversee two or more functions within Specimen Processing, potentially including Specimen Processing, Referral Testing, Test In Question, Imaging/Microfilming, and Logistics. The role is responsible for training personnel, managing daily operations, ensuring compliance with all policies, maintaining a low error rate, and achieving productivity within company standards. Additionally, the manager must ensure a safe, ergonomically sound, and professional work environment.

Requirements

• At least two years of supervisory experience
• Bachelor’s Degree BS/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must have the mental alertness and high energy required to appropriately perform the job
• The ability to effectively work with other departments to resolve problems
• Must have interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with other departments and foster continuous improvements
• Demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Able to manage client concerns, technical department, and employees in a professional manner
• Make independent decisions and exercise consistent sound judgment
• Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting
• Able to organize and lead projects within the work group and with cross-functional groups
• Required to give presentations and speak in front of groups
• PC skills, MS Office applications

Responsibilities

• Managing daily operations of departments
• Overseeing safety, ergonomics, maintenance, and cleanliness of the department
• Overseeing implementation of SOPs for Specimen Processing in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines
• Ensuring all Federal, State & local licensure requirements are met
• Overseeing and ensuring all Laboratory QA/QC documentation is complete and reviewed as required
• Ensuring workflow from logistics meets the needs of the department
• Monitoring Special Handling of Jeopardized Clients, Hospital Clients and Vital Specimens
• Establishing and motivating a participative work environment that encourages employee involvement
• Holding regularly scheduled meetings for dissemination of information to staff
• Tracking and entering time/attendance of supervisory employees
• Preparing month-end reports
• Investigating, resolving, and responding to customer complaints
• Monitoring schedules to ensure minimal overtime for employees
• Ensuring Quest Diagnostics improvement and/or standardization initiatives are implemented
• Ensuring Quest Diagnostics Compliance Policies are followed
• Overseeing staffing levels in the department and ensuring an adequate process for interviewing, selection, and hiring of new employees
• Responsible for training, coaching, supervision, and development of supervisory staff
• Monitoring ongoing performance of supervisory employees; providing corrective action and counseling as required
• Performing mid-year and annual performance appraisals
• Assisting in preparation of annual budget for areas of responsibility
• Maintaining budget control throughout the year in areas of responsibility
• Assuring fiscal responsibilities of the department are met, including cost containment, overtime management, and capital expenditure needs assessment
• Effectively working with other departments to resolve problems
• Leading process improvement teams or other initiatives to meet management objectives
• Performing all other duties as assigned
