About The Position

Oversees front-end (pre-analytic) laboratory operations processes including phlebotomy, lab assistants, and technical support staff. Responsible for all front-end laboratory processes including phlebotomy, specimen processing, sendout/referred testing. Responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed by phlebotomists, lab assistants and non-technical support staff. Will oversee all aspects of reference lab/sendout testing. Requirements

  • 3 years of phlebotomy or specimen processing (pre-analytic) experience with increasing responsibility in an acute care facility
  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analytical ability to define functional, unit or service procedures, to independently oversee the application of methods, guides, and processes, to apply sound judgment in choosing proper course of action among multiple options, to interpret policies, to assist in planning short to mid-range goals and determining measures, and to assess and monitor progress toward Laboratory Services goal attainment
  • Communication and/or interpersonal skills for contact with internal and external customers/stakeholders to manage concerns of clients, technical departments and employees in a professional manner and in accordance with HR and Laboratory policies. Some discretion must be exercised in deciding what and how to communicate
  • Conflict resolution skills are exercised and occasionally on an interdepartmental or inter functional basis
  • Diplomacy, tact and listening skills are required
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies and technical materials in the Laboratory area is necessary
  • Technical and non-technical knowledge of laboratory operations and processes, including phlebotomy and specimen collection
  • Working Knowledge of computer applications with special focus on word and spreadsheet applications
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of process improvement skills and concepts
